Short explanation

A cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists in Serialize JavaScript due to unescaped closing script tags at the end of a serialized function body [S0]. The vulnerability affects versions prior to 7.1.3 [S0].

Why does it matter?

Attackers can achieve cross-site scripting in targeted applications by controlling the serialized function source [S0]. Users should follow the vendor advisory to address this issue [S0].

What should be done?

  • Follow the provided vendor advisories [S0]
  • Update the affected serialize-javascript package [S0]
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Serialize JavaScript içinde 7.1.3 sürümünden önce siteler arası betik çalıştırma zafiyeti bulunmaktadır.

Zafiyetin istismarı, sahte toString() gibi yöntemlerle serileştirilmiş fonksiyon kaynağının kontrol edilmesini gerektirir.

Show the technical text from the sources

Serialize JavaScript serializes JavaScript values to a superset of JSON that includes regular expressions and functions. Prior to 7.1.3, the function-source escaping logic does not neutralize a bare closing-script prefix when attacker-influenced function source text ends exactly at that prefix. Because each function body is escaped independently, a delimiter supplied by surrounding serialized output can terminate an HTML script element, and a later serialized value supplies injected markup that becomes a live element in the page. Exploitation requires control of a serialized function's source text, such as through a spoofed toString(). This issue is fixed in version 7.1.3.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
