Short explanation

A vulnerability exists in the pypdf library where an incomplete remediation for repeated malformed cross-reference entries can cause crafted streams to trigger long runtimes.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability can lead to high availability impact through user interaction over the network, potentially causing service disruptions.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories
  • Update the pypdf version
  • Apply relevant updates
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

pypdf kütüphanesinde 6.21.2 öncesi sürümler etkilidir.

Show the technical text from the sources

pypdf is a free and open-source pure-python PDF library. Prior to 6.21.2, an incomplete remediation for repeated malformed cross-reference entries in GHSA-55h5-xmcq-c37v could still trigger a complete PDF stream reload during each recovery attempt even when a recovery cache was present, causing crafted cross-reference streams to produce long runtimes. This issue is fixed in version 6.21.2.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
