Short explanation

Tokio version 1.54.0 contains a race condition between the tokio::time::Interval component and the multi-threaded runtime's time driver. This flaw can lead to memory corruption and assertion errors within safe Rust code.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability threatens the stability of affected systems by potentially causing heap memory corruption and task reference-count corruption.

What should be done?

  • Follow the vendor advisories
  • Apply available updates
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

Tokio is a runtime for writing applications with Rust. In 1.54.0, a race condition between tokio::time::Interval::poll_tick (including .tick().await) and the multi-threaded runtime's time driver could drop an internal timer entry without synchronizing with the driver thread that was firing it. The race caused a use-after-free on the timer's waker and task state in safe Rust, which could produce assertion panics, task reference-count corruption, or heap memory corruption. This issue is fixed in 1.54.1.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
