Short explanation

Vyper versions 0.4.0b1 through 0.5.0b1 are affected by a name shadowing vulnerability that miscompiles unfoldable constants and omitted default arguments from imported modules.

Why does it matter?

Attackers can replace intended values and inject out-of-range values for narrow types, corrupting validation or accounting logic.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories and security updates
  • Apply updates for affected versions when available
  • Rename variables to avoid naming conflicts

Show the technical text from the sources

Vyper 0.4.0b1 through 0.5.0b1 miscompiles unfoldable constants and omitted default arguments from imported modules, because parse_Name resolves their names in the using function's scope rather than at declaration. When a contract's parameter, local, or loop variable shares such a name, attacker-influenced input can replace the intended value, including out-of-range values for narrow types such as uint8, corrupting validation or accounting logic.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
