CVE-2026-114136 Django REST framework JSONParser Vulnerability

Short explanation

The JSONParser component in Django REST framework uses the client-supplied Content-Type charset value with codecs.getreader without proper validation. A remote unauthenticated attacker can send a compressed request body to consume substantial per-worker memory.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability can be exploited remotely without authentication, causing excessive memory consumption and leading to potential denial of service conditions.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories and updates
  • Check official releases for patching guidance
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Django REST framework sürümlerinde JSONParser, istemci tarafından sağlanan charset değerini codecs.getreader ile işler.

Saldırganlar sıkıştırılmış istek gövdesi kullanarak küçük isteklerle yüksek bellek tüketimine neden olabilir.

Show the technical text from the sources

Django REST framework is a toolkit for building Web APIs. From 3.6.4 until 3.18.2, JSONParser.parse in rest_framework/parsers.py uses the client-supplied Content-Type charset value with codecs.getreader, which accepts byte-transform codecs such as bz2_codec rather than only text encodings. A remote unauthenticated client can therefore cause a compressed JSON request body to be expanded after Django has enforced DATA_UPLOAD_MAX_MEMORY_SIZE against only the wire bytes, allowing a very small request to consume substantial per-worker memory. The default parser set is sufficient, and any reachable endpoint that accepts a JSON body is affected. This issue is fixed in version 3.18.2.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
