Short explanation

CVE-2026-114135 is an authorization bypass vulnerability in Jupyter Server versions 2.0.0 through 2.6.0 when GatewayClient.url is enabled. A restricted authenticated user can bypass the configured authorizer and achieve kernel execution.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows attackers to expose data and credentials available to the kernel, and permits modification or disruption of the kernel environment. It is a high-severity issue with a CVSS base score of 8.8.

What should be done?

  • Follow the vendor advisory for further guidance and updates
  • Avoid manually registering the deprecated jupyter_server.gateway.handlers module
  • Maintain the default gateway configuration
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Jupyter Server 2.0.0 ile 2.6.0 sürümleri arasında GatewayClient.url etkinleştirildiğinde WebSocketChannelsHandler çekirdek yürütme yetkilendirmesini atlar.

Show the technical text from the sources

Jupyter Server is the backend for Jupyter web applications. From 2.0.0 until 2.6.0, enabling GatewayClient.url replaced the normal KernelWebsocketHandler with WebSocketChannelsHandler, which authenticated the user but did not call authorizer.is_authorized(...) for the execute action on the kernels resource. A restricted authenticated user could therefore open an upstream kernel channel and obtain kernel execution despite the configured Authorizer denying that action, exposing data and credentials available to the kernel and permitting modification or disruption of the kernel environment. The default gateway configuration is fixed in version 2.6.0. In 2.6.0 and later, the same authorization bypass remains possible when a deployment manually registers the deprecated jupyter_server.gateway.handlers module, because its handler still omits the configured kernel-execute authorization decision.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
