Short explanation

CVE-2026-112915 in the Python filelock library allows a local user with a crafted SQLite lock database to stall or hang lock acquisition processes (S0). This vulnerability affects versions from 3.20.4 up to 4.2.1 (S0).

Why does it matter?

Local users can bypass timeout settings to persistently hang lock acquisition operations, negatively impacting service availability (S0).

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories to apply updates (S0)
  • Verify version compatibility (S0)
  • Review local file permissions and access controls (S0)
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

filelock is a platform-independent file lock for Python. From 3.20.4 until 4.2.1, ReadWriteLock can open a crafted SQLite lock database without bounding schema and query work, allowing another local user who can replace the database to make acquisition stall or hang; versions from 3.20.4 expose this on initial per-instance opening, and versions from 3.30.0 repeat the exposure on every acquisition. This issue is fixed in version 4.2.1.
