Out-of-Bounds Read in Pillow TIFF Tile and RGBA Paths

Short explanation

Pillow versions from 8.1.0 up to but not including 13.0.0 do not validate row bounds for crafted TIFF files with duplicated PhotometricInterpretation or BitsPerSample tags, leading to out-of-bounds reads that can leak adjacent heap data into pixels or crash the process.

Why does it matter?

Data leakage and denial‑of‑service risk threaten applications that rely on Pillow.

What should be done?

  • Upgrade Pillow to version 13.0.0 or later
  • Follow the vendor advisory and verify compatibility
  • Avoid processing untrusted TIFF files
  • Monitor for emerging exploits
Note on uncertainty

The sources give limited detail on some technical conditions. Review the chain of evidence below before deciding how to act.

Chain of evidence and sources3 verified claims

CVE-2026-112404, Pillow 8.1.0‑13.0.0 arasındaki sürümleri etkileyerek TIFF tile ve RGBA yollarında out‑of‑bounds okuma oluşturur.

Show the technical text from the sources

Pillow is a Python imaging library. From 8.1.0 until 13.0.0, Pillow's TIFF tile and RGBA decode paths can read beyond row data produced by libtiff. In _decodeTile and the RGBA unpacker path, when Pillow and libtiff interpret duplicated PhotometricInterpretation or BitsPerSample tags differently, Pillow does not verify that the required input row fits inside the row libtiff produced, while the strip path has this validation. Loading pixels from such a crafted TIFF can expose adjacent heap data in output pixels or crash the process. This issue is fixed in version 13.0.0.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
