Short explanation

Prior to version 13.0.0, Pillow rank-based filters can dereference invalid image storage for a zero-size image, leading to a native process crash.

Why does it matter?

Attackers can supply or cause the creation of zero-size images to trigger native process crashes in applications, threatening service availability.

What should be done?

  • Upgrade to version 13.0.0 or later
  • Follow vendor advisory guidance
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Pillow kütüphanesinin 13.0.0 öncesi sürümleri, sıfır boyutlu resimlerde geçersiz bellek referansına karşı savunmasızdır.

Sıfır boyutlu resimler üzerinde rank, median, minimum veya maximum filtrelerinin uygulanması yerel süreç çökmesine neden olur.

Show the technical text from the sources

Pillow is a Python imaging library. Prior to 13.0.0, Pillow's rank-based filters can dereference invalid image storage for a zero-size image. ImagingExpand() allocates a non-empty output and then faults while replicating edges by reading the first pixel from empty input storage; ImagingRankFilter is never reached. An attacker can supply or cause creation of a zero-size image to an application that applies a rank, median, minimum, or maximum filter. This causes a native process crash. This issue is fixed in version 13.0.0.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
