Short explanation
An out-of-bounds write vulnerability in P-Net stems from the lack of validation for the LengthPeerStationName field within the CheckPeers block parser. This condition can lead to a crash or potentially arbitrary code execution when a crafted block is processed.
This vulnerability may allow attackers to cause a denial of service or potentially impact systems. The patch status remains unverified in the official sources.
What should be done?
- Follow vendor advisories and updates.
- Apply patches for affected P-Net versions when available.
Chain of evidence and sources
P-Net sürümleri 1.0.3 öncesinde CheckPeers bloğundaki LengthPeerStationName alanı doğrulanmamaktadır.
Hazırlanan bir blok arabelleğin sonunun ötesine veri yazarak çökmeye veya potansiyel kod yürütülmesine yol açabilir.
Zafiyetin sömürülmesi bitişik ağ erişimi ve oturum kurulmasını gerektirir.
Show the technical text from the sources
P-Net before 1.0.3 does not validate the LengthPeerStationName field of a CheckPeers block in get_check_peer(). The received length (up to 255) was used to copy data into the 241-byte peer station name buffer and to place the terminating NUL byte, so a crafted block writes up to 15 bytes past the end of the buffer. This can lead to a crash (denial of service) or potentially arbitrary code execution. Requires establishment of session that needs ADJACENT network access.
