Short explanation

libTiMidity through 0.2.8 contains an out-of-bounds access vulnerability in init_soundfont() in src/sndfont.c. Supplying unvalidated SF2 preset header bank and preset values can lead to memory corruption, heap reads and writes, and application crashes.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows attackers to compromise memory integrity and trigger application crashes via specially crafted SoundFont files. CVSS scores vary between 6.1 and 6.9 across different sources.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories and security updates
  • Update affected libTiMidity components
  • Restrict the processing of unvalidated SoundFont files

Show the technical text from the sources

libTiMidity through 0.2.8 contains an out-of-bounds access vulnerability in init_soundfont() in src/sndfont.c that allows attackers to corrupt memory by supplying unvalidated SF2 preset header bank and preset values. Attackers can craft a .sf2 file whose bank or preset indexes past the 128-entry tonebank or drumset arrays, causing heap memory reads, writes, and application crashes.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
