Short explanation

The PFI plugin framework deployment routine in Phoenix Contact PLCnext Engineer does not validate path components when extracting archive entries to the local plugin repository. Based on S0, this flaw allows an unauthenticated local attacker to write files outside the plugin repository and potentially lead to full system compromise.

Why does it matter?

System integrity is at serious risk because an unauthenticated local attacker can write arbitrary files to any location accessible with the current user's permissions.

What should be done?

  • Follow official vendor advisories
  • Apply relevant updates when available

Show the technical text from the sources

The PFI plugin framework deployment routine does not validate path components when extracting archive entries to the local plugin repository. Archive entries containing relative path segments such as '..' are not rejected, allowing an unauthenticated local attacker to write files outside the plugin repository to arbitrary locations accessible with the current user's permissions which could result in full system compromise.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
