Short explanation

ELFIO through 3.12 contains a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in relocation_section_accessor get_entry(). This flaw allows attackers to crash applications via an unvalidated sh_link index, resulting in a denial of service.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability carries a denial of service risk that can cause applications to crash through a specially crafted ELF file.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories
  • Check for ELFIO version updates

Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

ELFIO 3.12 ve önceki sürümleri, relocation_section_accessor get_entry() fonksiyonunda NULL pointer dereference zafiyeti barındırmaktadır.

Zafiyet, saldırganların doğrulanmamış sh_link indeksi içeren özel ELF dosyalarıyla uygulamaları çökeltmesine olanak tanır.

Show the technical text from the sources

ELFIO through 3.12 contains a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in relocation_section_accessor get_entry() that allows attackers to crash applications via an unvalidated sh_link index. Attackers can supply a crafted ELF file whose SHT_REL or SHT_RELA section has a dangling sh_link, causing find_hash_section() to dereference null and deny service.
