Short explanation

vault-java-driver (versions 5.2.0‑6.2.3) silently disables TLS certificate and hostname verification in three situations. This lets a network attacker read Vault tokens and secrets and forge responses. The issue is fixed in version 7.0.0.

Why does it matter?

Missing verification enables a network‑based MITM attack that can steal Vault tokens and secrets.

What should be done?

  • Upgrade vault-java-driver to 7.0.0 or later
  • Ensure TLS verification is explicitly enabled (SslConfig.build())
  • Set VAULT_SSL_VERIFY to the exact string "true"
  • Validate server certificates and hostnames
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

vault-java-driver, üç belirli senaryoda TLS sertifika ve ana bilgisayar doğrulamasını sessizce devre dışı bırakır ve ağ saldırganının Vault verilerini okumasına ve sahte yanıtlar üretmesine izin verir.

Sorunun düzeltilmesi 7.0.0 sürümünde sağlanmıştır; yama mevcut olduğundan sürümü yükseltmek güvenliği yeniden sağlar.

Show the technical text from the sources

vault-java-driver, a Java client for HashiCorp Vault, silently disables TLS certificate and hostname verification in three states where the caller asked for verification: an SslConfig passed to VaultConfig without calling build(), an SslConfig restored by Java deserialization, and VAULT_SSL_VERIFY set to a truthy value other than "true", such as 1, yes or on. In each case SslConfig.isVerify() returns false and the driver installs a trust-all SSLContext. An attacker on the network path to the Vault server can then read the Vault token and secrets in transit and forge responses. This issue affects io.github.jopenlibs:vault-java-driver 5.2.0 through 6.2.3. It is fixed in 7.0.0.
