Short explanation
A remote code execution vulnerability exists in Apache Syncope where BPMN process definitions imported via the REST API allow JUEL expressions to be executed directly on the server without a sandbox (S0). The flaw is triggered when an administrator with adequate entitlements imports and starts a process containing a JUEL expression (S0).
This vulnerability allows authenticated administrative users to execute code directly on the affected server (S0). Without proper mitigation, system integrity can be compromised (S0).
What should be done?
- Upgrade to version 4.0.9 or 4.1.4 (S0)
- Follow vendor advisories and updates (S0)
Chain of evidence and sources
Yeterli yetkiye sahip yöneticiler, REST API üzerinden JUEL ifadeleri içeren BPMN süreçlerini içe aktararak kod çalıştırabilir (S0).
Zafiyet 3.0.0-M0 ila 3.0.16, 4.0.0-M0 ila 4.0.8 ve 4.1.0 ila 4.1.3 arasındaki Apache Syncope sürümlerini etkilemektedir (S0).
Show the technical text from the sources
Improper isolation or compartmentalization vulnerability in Apache Syncope. An administrator with adequate entitlements can import arbitrary BPMN process definitions via the REST API and then start the process. When a BPMN process containing a JUEL expression is imported and started, the expression is executed directly on the server, with no sandbox. This issue affects Apache Syncope: from 3.0.0-M0 through 3.0.16, from 4.0.0-M0 through 4.0.8, from 4.1.0 through 4.1.3. Users are recommended to upgrade to version 4.0.9 / 4.1.4, which fix this issue by rejecting BPMN definitions including expression attributes.
