Short explanation

In dataclasses-avroschema, the ClassRepresentation.render_metaclass component inserts schema-controlled Avro record names into the quoted Meta.schema_name field of generated Python source without escaping. This creates a code injection vulnerability that executes when the generated module is imported.

Why does it matter?

The vulnerability allows attackers to inject malicious statements into generated Python source code via externally controlled inputs. Executing these statements upon module import can compromise system security.

What should be done?

  • Update to version 0.70.6 or later
  • Follow vendor advisories
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

dataclasses-avroschema generates Avro schemas from Python dataclasses, Pydantic models, and Faust Records and generates Python code from Avro schemas. From version 0.62.3 through 0.70.5, ClassRepresentation.render_metaclass inserts a schema-controlled Avro record name into the quoted Meta.schema_name field of generated Python source without escaping it. A crafted name can terminate the string literal and inject statements into the generated class body, which execute when the generated module is imported. Version 0.70.6 fixes the vulnerability by escaping schema values rendered into generated string literals.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
