Short explanation

In FreeScout prior to version 1.8.231, a restricted agent can lift their own administrator-imposed conversation restrictions via the profile form. This allows unauthorized data access and modification.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows a low-privileged user to bypass administrative controls and access or modify conversations assigned to other agents.

What should be done?

  • Update to version 1.8.231 or later
  • Follow vendor advisories
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

FreeScout 1.8.231 öncesi sürümlerde kısıtlı ajanlar profil kaydetme yoluyla atanan konuşma kısıtlamalarını kaldırabilir.

UsersController::profileSave() işlevi düzenleyicinin yönetici olup olmadığını kontrol etmez.

Show the technical text from the sources

FreeScout is a self-hosted help desk and shared mailbox. Prior to 1.8.231, the profile form exposes the only_assigned_tickets permission to its non-admin owner, and UsersController::profileSave() adds or removes User::PERM_ONLY_ASSIGNED_TICKETS without checking that the editor is an administrator. A restricted agent can uncheck the option, or submit an ordinary profile save that omits it, to remove the administrator-imposed restriction. The agent can then read and modify conversations assigned to other agents in every mailbox they already belong to. This issue is fixed in version 1.8.231.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
