Short explanation
A hard-coded cryptographic key and initialization vector exist in the user-configuration backup mechanism of TP-Link RE305 V3 and Archer C7 V5. This vulnerability may allow backup files to be decrypted and sensitive data to be exposed.
Successful exploitation may disclose sensitive configuration information contained in a backup file, including administrator passwords and Wi-Fi credentials.
What should be done?
- Apply the vendor firmware updates and patches
- Check the vendor support pages for available downloads
Chain of evidence and sources
TP-Link RE305 V3 ve Archer C7 V5 yapılandırma yedekleme mekanizmasında sabit kodlanmış AES-128 anahtarı ve IV bulunur.
Başarılı istismar, yönetici parolaları ve Wi-Fi kimlik bilgileri dahil hassas bilgileri açığa çıkarabilir.
Show the technical text from the sources
A hard-coded cryptographic key vulnerability exists in the user-configuration backup mechanism of TP-Link RE305 V3 and Archer C7 V5. A fixed AES-128 key and initialization vector are embedded in the firmware configuration-management component. An attacker who obtains an affected configuration backup file may extract the cryptographic material from the firmware and use it to decrypt the backup. Successful exploitation may disclose sensitive configuration information contained in a backup file, including administrator passwords and Wi-Fi credentials.
