ProxySQL Uninitialized Heap Read Vulnerability

Short explanation

The decompress_mysql_payload() function in lib/mysql_data_stream.cpp within ProxySQL does not validate output length when using zlib compression. This allows an authenticated MySQL client to manipulate payload length, read uninitialized heap data, and forward it to the backend.

Why does it matter?

Authenticated attackers can leak sensitive data through backend error responses and cause service disruption due to excessive memory allocations.

What should be done?

  • Update to versions 3.0.10, 3.1.10, or 4.0.10
  • Follow the vendor advisory
Note on uncertainty

The sources give limited detail on some technical conditions. Review the chain of evidence below before deciding how to act.

Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

ProxySQL 3.0.10, 3.1.10 ve 4.0.10 öncesi sürümler zafiyetten etkilenmektedir.

Kimliği doğrulanmış bir MySQL istemcisi payload_length değerini manipüle ederek yığın verilerini okuyabilir.

Show the technical text from the sources

ProxySQL is a proxy for MySQL and its forks, as well as PostgreSQL. Prior to 3.0.10, 3.1.10, and 4.0.10, decompress_mysql_payload() in lib/mysql_data_stream.cpp accepts a zlib stream when uncompress() returns Z_OK without checking that the actual output length equals the attacker-controlled payload_length. An authenticated MySQL client that negotiates compression can overstate payload_length, causing buffer2array() to parse the uninitialized tail of a heap buffer as MySQL packet headers and forward stale data to the backend. Backend error responses can disclose prior SQL queries, result data, credentials, or session state, and malformed lengths can also cause excessive allocations. This issue is fixed in versions 3.0.10, 3.1.10, and 4.0.10.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.

Public exploit and active exploitation status

Verified exploit intelligence

No verified public PoC, exploit repository or Metasploit module has been found for this CVE yet.
