Short explanation

ZoneMinder prior to version 1.38.3 contains an authenticated OS command injection vulnerability in the exportEvents() function, allowing arbitrary command execution as the web server user.

Why does it matter?

Authenticated attackers can execute arbitrary operating system commands on vulnerable ZoneMinder installations by submitting crafted parameters and valid CSRF tokens.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories to apply available updates.
  • Review access controls and input validation mechanisms.
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

ZoneMinder 1.38.3 öncesi sürümlerde exportEvents() fonksiyonu exportFile parametresini kabuk komutuna birleştirir.

Saldırganlar web sunucusu kullanıcısı yetkileriyle rastgele işletim sistemi komutları çalıştırabilir.

Show the technical text from the sources

ZoneMinder is a free, open source closed-circuit television software application. Prior to 1.38.3, the exportEvents() function concatenates the attacker-controlled exportFile request parameter into a shell command without neutralizing shell metacharacters when an authenticated user with View Events or View Snapshots permission submits an event export request with a crafted exportFile value, a valid CSRF token, and exportDetail enabled. The affected components are exportEvents(), exportFile, web/ajax/event.php, web/skins/classic/includes/export_functions.php. In this attack mechanism, the crafted exportFile value reaches the trailing directory argument of a tar or zip command executed by exec(). The attacker can execute arbitrary operating system commands as the web server user. This issue is fixed in version 1.38.3.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
