Short explanation

JupyterLab Desktop contains a vulnerability where remote-server URLs are inserted into the server-selection dialog and Welcome view without safe encoding. Convincing a user can execute JavaScript and abuse the privileged IPC bridge.

Why does it matter?

This critical vulnerability allows remote code execution with user privileges, posing severe risks to confidentiality and integrity.

What should be done?

  • Update to version 4.6.2-1 or later
  • Follow vendor advisories
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

JupyterLab Desktop sürümlerinde, uzaktan sunucu URL'leri güvenli kodlama olmadan Karşılama görünümüne eklenmektedir.

Hazırlanan URL'nin gönderilmesi, JavaScript çalıştırılmasına ve ayrıcalıklı IPC köprüsünün kötüye kullanımına yol açabilir.

Show the technical text from the sources

JupyterLab Desktop is the cross-platform desktop application for JupyterLab. Prior to 4.6.2-1, remote-server URLs were inserted into the server-selection dialog and Welcome view without safe encoding. An attacker who convinces a user to submit a crafted URL can execute JavaScript in the Welcome renderer and abuse its privileged IPC bridge to execute arbitrary code with the user’s privileges. The Welcome view also unsafely renders RSS news-feed titles; exploitation through this separate input path requires control over content delivered through the application’s Jupyter Blog feed or its cached feed data, rather than submission of a remote-server URL. This issue affects all supported platforms and is fixed in version 4.6.2-1.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
