Short explanation

JupyterLab Desktop for macOS contains a TCC bypass vulnerability (CVE-2025-54991) due to insecure entitlements. Affecting versions prior to 4.6.2-1, this flaw allows a local attacker to inherit TCC permissions via dynamic library loading.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability enables an attacker with existing local code execution to access protected user folders—such as Documents, Desktop, or Downloads—without an additional macOS prompt, compromising confidentiality.

What should be done?

  • Follow the vendor advisory and apply updates
  • Upgrade the application to the secure version
  • Audit local user privileges and TCC grants
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

JupyterLab Desktop for macOS, com.apple.security.cs.allow-dyld-environment-variables yetkisini bildirerek DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES değişkenine izin vermektedir.

Zafiyet Windows ve Linux sistemlerini etkilememektedir.

Show the technical text from the sources

JupyterLab Desktop is the cross-platform desktop application for JupyterLab. Prior to 4.6.2-1, JupyterLab Desktop for macOS declared the com.apple.security.cs.allow-dyld-environment-variables entitlement, allowing the dynamic linker to honor DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES despite the hardened runtime. An attacker who can already execute code as the current user can load an arbitrary dynamic library into the JupyterLab Desktop process and inherit TCC permissions previously granted to the application, including access to protected Documents, Desktop, or Downloads folders without another macOS prompt. Exploitation requires existing local code execution and prior TCC grants; it does not provide initial or remote code execution. Windows and Linux are not affected. This vulnerability is fixed in 4.6.2-1.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
