Short explanation
In Sandboxie-Plus versions prior to 1.18.6, a sandbox containment bypass vulnerability allows a process inside a sandbox to send messages to SbieSvc and modify files outside the sandbox [S0]. This vulnerability can contribute to SYSTEM code execution [S0].
It enables a local attacker to breach sandbox boundaries, modify file attributes outside the sandbox, and potentially achieve SYSTEM code execution through privileged processes [S0].
What should be done?
- Update the software to version 1.18.6 or later [S0].
- Follow vendor security advisories [S0].
Chain of evidence and sources
Sandboxie-Plus 1.18.6 öncesi sürümlerde, korumalı alan içindeki bir süreç SbieSvc servisine mesaj göndererek dış dosyaların değiştirilmesine yol açabilir [S0].
Bu zafiyet, kısa ad yönlendirmesi aracılığıyla SYSTEM kod yürütülmesine katkıda bulunabilir [S0].
Show the technical text from the sources
Sandboxie-Plus is an open source sandbox-based isolation software for Windows. Prior to 1.18.6, a process inside a sandbox could send MSGID_FILE_SET_ATTRIBUTES or MSGID_FILE_SET_SHORT_NAME to SbieSvc and cause the SYSTEM service to open and modify an existing file outside the sandbox. The direct primitive changes file attributes, timestamps, writeability, or 8.3 short names; a short-name redirection can additionally contribute to SYSTEM code execution when a privileged process resolves an attacker-controlled short-name path in a location SbieSvc can open. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.18.6.
