Short explanation

CVE-2026-101337 in NLnet Labs NSD allows attackers to overwrite the stack with up to 64K of data due to specially formatted base64 RDATA fields. S0 indicates the patch status is unknown and the issue is not listed in KEV.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability enables attackers to compromise the stack and create high impacts on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. S0 rates the CVSS 4.0 base score at 8.7 as HIGH.

What should be done?

  • Follow official vendor advisories.
  • Audit zone file ingestion processes.
  • Consult guidance provided by NLnet Labs.
Chain of evidence and sources3 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

When base64 data is split up in pieces, of 3 character or less, tokens were incorrectly calculated to produce 0 bytes. This enables attackers to overwrite the stack with up to 64K of attacker controlled data. Zone files which are written out by NSD itself, such as for zones for which the NSD instance is secondary, will not be formatted like this. The zone file must be fed to NSD directly, (but it could come, for example, from an operator controlled provisioning system).

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
