Short explanation
A jail filesystem root escape vulnerability occurs when fdescfs(4) is mounted in a jail with the "nodup" option on FreeBSD.
This vulnerability allows a process within a jail to bypass filesystem root restrictions and violate isolation boundaries on affected systems.
What should be done?
- Follow vendor security advisories
- Review the relevant FreeBSD advisory
Chain of evidence and sources
fdescfs(4) nodup seçeneğiyle monte edildiğinde /dev/fd/N doğru yetkileri devralmaz.
Etkilenen sürümler arasında FreeBSD 15.1, 15.0, 14.5 ve 14.4 yer almaktadır.
Show the technical text from the sources
When fdescfs(4) was mounted in a jail with the "nodup" option, opening /dev/fd/N returned a descriptor that did not inherit FD_RESOLVE_BENEATH or the Capsicum capability rights of descriptor N. A process in a jail that has received a directory file descriptor from another jail can use these techniques to escape the jail's filesystem root restriction.
