Short explanation
The CVE describes a reflected cross‑site scripting flaw in the authentication endpoint of WSO2 API Control Plane, API Manager and Identity Server. An attacker can inject malicious JavaScript to redirect browsers, modify the UI, and exfiltrate data. HttpOnly cookies prevent session hijacking.
Manipulating users’ browsers to malicious sites and altering the UI erodes trust and creates data leakage risk.
What should be done?
- Monitor the WSO2 security advisory
- Apply patches when released by the vendor
- Enforce proper output encoding and input validation
- Deploy a Content Security Policy (CSP)
- Maintain HttpOnly flag on session cookies
Chain of evidence and sources
CVE-2025-5769, WSO2 API Control Plane, API Manager ve Identity Server ürünlerinde kimlik doğrulama uç noktasındaki yetersiz çıktı kodlamasından kaynaklanan reflected XSS açığını içerir (S0,S1).
Açık, tarayıcı yönlendirmesi, UI değişikliği ve düşük seviyede veri sızdırma gibi etkiler yaratabilir; HttpOnly çerezler oturum ele geçirmeyi engeller (S0).
CISA KEV listesinde aktif istismar rapor edilmemiştir ve yama durumu UNKNOWN olarak belirtilmiştir; kuruluşlar WSO2 güvenlik duyurusunu izlemelidir (S0).
Show the technical text from the sources
The authentication endpoint does not properly encode user-supplied input before rendering it within the web page. This lack of output encoding allows an attacker to inject malicious JavaScript payloads into the authentication flow, which are then executed by the victim's browser. By exploiting this vulnerability, an attacker can redirect the user's browser to a malicious website, modify the content of the web page displayed to the user, or exfiltrate information from the browser. However, due to the implementation of the httpOnly flag on session-related sensitive cookies, session hijacking and similar attacks are not possible.
