Short explanation
In the Linux kernel, the p54 Wi‑Fi driver does not validate firmware record lengths, allowing an out‑of‑bounds read when a malformed record is processed. This can lead to memory corruption. No active exploitation is reported, and the patch status is not confirmed in official sources.
The driver interacts directly with Wi‑Fi hardware, so memory corruption threatens system stability and security.
What should be done?
- Monitor vendor security advisories
- Apply kernel updates when a fix is released
- Disable the p54 driver or use an alternative Wi‑Fi driver
- Avoid executing untrusted firmware files
Chain of evidence and sources
p54 firmware ayrıştırıcısı, bileşen kimliği ve sürüm kayıtlarının uzunluklarını doğrulamadığı için bellek sınırları dışına okuma yapabilir (S0).
CVE, KEV listesinde yer almıyor; yani aktif istismar rapor edilmemiştir (S0).
Show the technical text from the sources
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: wifi: p54: validate firmware record lengths The p54 firmware parser accesses component ID and component version records without checking that their lengths cover the fields being read. A malformed record can therefore make the parser read past the record. Validate the component ID and component version record lengths before accessing their data. The descriptor record is also checked against the shortest descriptor length found in the supported firmware images. Reject descriptor values that underflow the RX offset or produce an empty RX range before updating the driver state.
