Short explanation
An issue involving missing limits on resource use exists within the match expression evaluator of MongoDB Server (S0). Authenticated users with read-only privileges can nest internal schema validation operators to consume excessive memory and terminate the mongod process (S0). The patch status cannot be reliably concluded from examined official sources (S0).
This vulnerability threatens system availability by allowing users to trigger a denial of service condition on the database server through memory exhaustion (S0).
What should be done?
- Follow vendor advisories as the patch status is currently unknown (S0).
- Review user query filters and access privileges (S0).
Chain of evidence and sources
MongoDB Server match ifadesi değerlendiricisinde eksik kaynak sınırları aşırı bellek tüketimine neden olmaktadır.
Kimliği doğrulanmış read-only kullanıcılar bu operatörleri kullanarak mongod sürecinin sonlanmasına yol açabilir.
Show the technical text from the sources
A security issue was discovered in MongoDB mongos (the sharded cluster router) where an authenticated user with readWrite privileges could crash the mongos process by crafting a specially formed aggregation pipeline. The issue leverages an internal aggregation stage that lacks proper authorization checks despite being intended for internal use, allowing a subsequent stage to be forced to execute on the router under conditions it was not designed to handle. This results in an unhandled fatal error that causes the mongos process to immediately abort, resulting in denial of service for all clients routed through the affected mongos instance.
