Short explanation

In Claude Code versions prior to 2.1.251, a TOCTOU race condition in the Edit tool allows file writes outside the workspace [S0].

Why does it matter?

The vulnerability can allow attackers to perform unauthorized file modifications on sensitive files outside the workspace, compromising system integrity [S0].

What should be done?

  • Update Claude Code to a secure version [S0].
  • Follow the vendor advisory for updates [S0].
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Claude Code 2.1.251 öncesi sürümlerde, Edit aracındaki TOCTOU yarış durumu çalışma alanı dışında dosya yazılmasına izin verir [S0].

Sömürü, Bash korumalı alanında çalışan saldırgan kontrolündeki kodun bir üst dizini sembolik bağlantıyla değiştirmesini gerektirir [S0].

Show the technical text from the sources

Claude Code is an agentic coding tool. Prior to 2.1.251, the Edit tool validates a target using pathname and symlink resolution that is not bound to the underlying directory inode or file descriptor. On macOS, attacker-controlled code running in the Bash sandbox can atomically replace an in-workspace parent directory with a symlink after validation, causing the unsandboxed Edit implementation to overwrite a user-writable file outside the workspace. Exploitation requires attacker-controlled code to run inside the sandbox, such as from a malicious repository or dependency script. This issue is fixed in version 2.1.251.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
