Short explanation

CVE-2026-88833 in the BusyBox udhcpc DHCP client leads to an integer underflow flaw during raw DHCP packet processing. An attacker on the same network segment can send a specially crafted packet to crash the DHCP client.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability triggers a critical availability issue resulting in network connectivity loss and service disruption. Attackers situated on the same network segment gain the ability to crash the target client.

What should be done?

  • Monitoring official vendor advisories and updates
  • Reviewing relevant security bulletins due to unknown patch status
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

BusyBox udhcpc istemcisi, IP başlığındaki saldırgan kontrolündeki değeri doğrulama yapmadan kullandığı için tamsayı eksi yönlü taşmaya sebep olur.

Aynı ağ segmentindeki bir saldırgan özel paket göndererek hizmet kesintisine ve ağ bağlantısı kaybına yol açabilir.

Show the technical text from the sources

A flaw was found in BusyBox's udhcpc DHCP client. When processing raw DHCP packets, the client replaces the validated packet length with an attacker-controlled value from the IP header without re-validating the minimum size. This leads to an integer underflow when subtracting header sizes, causing a subsequent memory copy with a massively oversized length. An attacker on the same network segment can send a specially crafted packet to crash the DHCP client, resulting in denial of service and loss of network connectivity.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
