Short explanation

CVE-2026-86022 is an argument injection vulnerability in VNote during external program handling. Attackers can execute arbitrary commands via crafted note filenames.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows attackers to execute arbitrary commands through the victim's configured external program, presenting high risks to confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

What should be done?

  • Updating to version 4.3.0 or later
  • Following the vendor advisory for guidance
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

VNote 4.3.0 öncesi sürümlerde harici program işleme sırasında argüman enjeksiyonu zafiyeti bulunmaktadır.

Zafiyet, Linux ve macOS üzerinde özel hazırlanmış not dosya adları ile tetiklenebilmektedir.

Show the technical text from the sources

VNote is a note-taking platform. Prior to 4.3.0, SessionConfig::ExternalProgram::fetchCommand wraps a note path in double quotes and substitutes it into a command string that QProcess::start(const QString&) reparses into arguments through ProcessUtils::startDetached. The automatic path in src/controllers/viewareacontroller.cpp and the Open With path in src/controllers/notebooknodecontroller.cpp both reach this sink. On Linux and macOS, an attacker-controlled double quote in a POSIX note filename can terminate the quoted path and add arguments to the victim's configured external program. If the configured program supports an argument that executes commands, such as the vim or gvim -c option, the injected arguments can execute arbitrary commands as the user. This issue is fixed in version 4.3.0.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
