Short explanation
A cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability has been identified in Siemens Industrial Edge App Publisher due to the application failing to properly sanitize or escape backend data before rendering it in the user interface. Because of the frontend integration with Node.js, this vulnerability allows the execution of arbitrary JavaScript, which can be leveraged to achieve remote code execution (RCE) on the victim's machine.
This vulnerability allows attackers to leverage reflected or unescaped data through user interaction to achieve remote code execution (RCE) on targeted machines, directly threatening system confidentiality and integrity.
What should be done?
- Monitor official vendor advisories and security bulletins
- Review updates provided for the product
Chain of evidence and sources
Siemens Industrial Edge App Publisher uygulamasının V1.27.9 öncesindeki tüm sürümleri etkilenmektedir.
Uygulamanın arka uçtan aldığı verileri arayüzde göstermeden önce süzmemesi nedeniyle XSS zafiyeti oluşmaktadır.
Node.js entegrasyonu sayesinde bu güvenlik açığı, mağdurun makinesinde uzaktan kod yürütmeye (RCE) dönüştürülebilmektedir.
