Short explanation

WebDyne versions for Perl from 3.007 before 3.022 execute .psp files outside the document root via path traversal in the PSGI API route fallback (S0).

Why does it matter?

A remote attacker can run embedded Perl in any .psp file the server can read, potentially compromising system integrity (S0).

What should be done?

  • Follow official vendor advisories and updates (S0)
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

WebDyne versions from 3.007 before 3.022 for Perl execute .psp files outside the document root via path traversal in the PSGI API route fallback. When a request matches no file, the PSGI handler retries it as an API route through api_filename. That keeps .. segments in the request path and only checks that the joined path starts with the document root, which a request for /../private passes. A remote attacker can run the embedded Perl in any .psp file the server can read, such as one uploaded to a directory outside the document root.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
