Short explanation

CVE-2026-73804 is an authorization issue in Gitea that allows a token with write:user scope to register an attacker-controlled SSH public key and bypass route-level token scope checks through HTTP Signature.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows limited-scope tokens to be converted into an unscoped authentication method and bypass route-level checks, enabling the escalation of account permissions.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories to apply available updates
  • Review the associated pull request and patch references
  • Check affected Gitea releases for upgrade paths
Chain of evidence and sources3 verified claims

Gitea, write:user kapsamına sahip bir token ile saldırgan kontrollü SSH genel anahtarının kaydedilmesine izin verir.

HTTP Signature ile imzalanan istekler rota düzeyindeki token kapsamı kontrollerinin atlanmasına neden olur.

Show the technical text from the sources

Gitea allows a token with write:user scope to register an attacker-controlled SSH public key on the token owner's account. API requests signed with the corresponding private key authenticate as that account through HTTP Signature without API token scope information, causing route-level token scope checks to be skipped. This converts a user-scoped token into an unscoped API authentication method while retaining the account's normal role and repository permissions.
