Short explanation
In the GStreamer gst-plugins-good (avidemux) component, the subindex parser lacks entry count validation, leading to excessive memory allocation and denial of service. Opening a crafted AVI file is sufficient to trigger the issue. A fix is available in gst-plugins-good 1.28.6, but the patch status could not be verified in official sources.
If media processing applications use this component, an attacker can locally cause a service outage.
What should be done?
- Upgrade to gst-plugins-good 1.28.6
- Follow the vendor security advisory
- Monitor official announcements as patch status is unknown

Show the technical text from the sources
A flaw was found in GStreamer gst-plugins-good (avidemux). In the subindex parser, missing validation of the entry count can cause excessive memory allocation and denial of service. Because avidemux is auto-plugged by playbin, decodebin, and gst-discoverer, opening or previewing a crafted AVI is sufficient to trigger the issue. Fixed upstream in gst-plugins-good 1.28.6 (GStreamer-SA-2026-0072).
