Short explanation

A rate limiting bypass vulnerability in FileRise (CVE-2026-69193) allows remote unauthenticated attackers to perform password spraying by rotating usernames. The issue is fixed in version 3.21.0 [S0].

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability enables attackers to bypass security limits and conduct unlimited password spraying from a single source, compromising account security [S0].

What should be done?

  • Update the software to version 3.21.0 or later [S0]
  • Follow vendor security advisories [S0]
  • Apply vendor guidelines regarding patch status uncertainties [S0]
Chain of evidence and sources3 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

FileRise is a self-hosted web-based file manager with multi-file upload, editing, and batch operations. Prior to 3.21.0, FileRise tracks failed logins only by the combination of source IP address and username. A remote unauthenticated attacker can rotate usernames to obtain a fresh per-account attempt budget for each name, enabling password spraying from one source beyond the intended limit. Per-user limits still apply and can also produce distinguishable throttling behavior for targeted accounts. The affected surface is AuthModel::getFailedLoginKey(). This issue is fixed in version 3.21.0.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
