Short explanation
Prior to version 3.20.0 of FileRise, the /api/file/snippet.php endpoint does not apply the standard authenticated-session guard before processing short text preview requests. While normal installations do not expose unauthenticated arbitrary file reads, unauthorized requests can reach ACL evaluation.
Allowing unauthorized requests to reach ACL evaluation can introduce the risk of sensitive file content exposure if combined with unusual proxy header or ACL misconfigurations.
What should be done?
- Upgrade to FileRise version 3.20.0 or later
- Follow the vendor security advisory guidance
- Review ACL and proxy header configurations
Chain of evidence and sources
FileRise 3.20.0 öncesi sürümlerde /api/file/snippet.php uç noktası standart kimlik doğrulamalı oturum korumasını uygulamamaktadır.
Normal kurulumlar kimliği doğrulanmamış rastgele dosya okuma açıklarına maruz kalmaz ancak istekler ACL değerlendirmesine ulaşabilir.
Show the technical text from the sources
FileRise is a self-hosted web-based file manager with multi-file upload, editing, and batch operations. Prior to 3.20.0, FileRise /api/file/snippet.php does not apply the standard authenticated-session guard before processing short text preview requests. The endpoint still performs FileRise ACL checks, so normal installations do not expose an unauthenticated arbitrary file read, but unauthenticated requests can reach ACL evaluation instead of receiving an immediate 401 response. Only additional unusual proxy-header or ACL misconfiguration is documented as allowing requests to proceed into path and file-content handling. This issue is fixed in version 3.20.0.
