CVE-2026-63436: Path Traversal Vulnerability in zt-zip Library

Short explanation

A path traversal vulnerability exists in the fluent API unpack function of the zt-zip Java library due to a lack of destination boundary validation.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows a crafted archive entry to write files outside of the intended destination directory, leading to integrity violations.

What should be done?

  • Update the zt-zip library or follow vendor advisories
  • Prefer the ZipUtil.unpack(...) method for archive extraction
  • Process untrusted archives using validated APIs
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

zt-zip kütüphanesinin 1.18.0 öncesi sürümleri akışkan API açma fonksiyonunda dizin geçişi zafiyetinden etkilenmektedir.

ZipUtil.unpack(...) kullanan uygulamalar bu açıktan etkilenmemektedir çünkü bu API hedef dosya doğrulaması gerçekleştirmektedir.

Show the technical text from the sources

zt-zip is a Java library that provides convenience methods for ZIP archive manipulation. Prior to 1.18.0, the Zips.get(zip).unpack().destination(outputDir).process() fluent API in src/main/java/org/zeroturnaround/zip/Zips.java constructs output files directly from ZIP entry names without applying the destination-boundary validation used by ZipUtil.unpack(...). A crafted entry containing parent-directory traversal can therefore write outside outputDir through both the normal copy branch and the ZipEntryTransformer branch. Applications that extract untrusted archives only through ZipUtil.unpack(...) are unaffected because that API already calls checkDestinationFileForTraversal. This issue is fixed in version 1.18.0.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
