Short explanation

A reflected cross-site scripting vulnerability in Asterisk phone provisioning HTTP error pages allows an unauthenticated attacker to retrieve an authorized user's AMI session cookie and impersonate that user.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability can lead to session compromise of authorized users in affected Asterisk deployments, undermining system confidentiality and integrity.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories and updates.
  • Apply patching guidance for the respective versions.
  • Ensure components disabled by default remain disabled unless strictly necessary.
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

Asterisk is an open source private branch exchange and telephony toolkit. Prior to Asterisk 20.20.1, 21.12.3, 22.10.1, 23.4.1 and Certified Asterisk 20.7-cert11, 22.8-cert3, an unauthenticated attacker may use reflected cross-site scripting in `phone provisioning HTTP error pages` to retrieve an authorized user's `AMI session cookie` and impersonate that user when `res_phoneprov` is enabled. The Asterisk HTTP web server, Asterisk Manager Interface (AMI), and AMI access via HTTP must all be enabled; each is disabled by default. The attacker must be able to connect to the HTTP server, which binds only to `127.0.0.1` by default even when enabled, and must convince the authorized user to click a malicious link. This issue is fixed in Asterisk 20.20.1, 21.12.3, 22.10.1, 23.4.1 and Certified Asterisk 20.7-cert11, 22.8-cert3.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
