Short explanation

An insecure memory handling vulnerability in the h2o HTTP server can lead to heap exhaustion and denial of availability due to incomplete CONNECT-UDP Capsule requests [S0, S1].

Why does it matter?

The vulnerability can be triggered remotely over the network without authentication, causing server memory exhaustion and loss of availability in deployments using proxy.connect-udp [S0, S1].

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor advisories to review updates
  • Upgrade to the corresponding fixed commit or version
  • Review proxy.connect-udp configurations
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

Show the technical text from the sources

h2o is an HTTP server with support for HTTP/1.x, HTTP/2 and HTTP/3. Prior to commit 4212ce114506a073505fd389db16ad2ba4e582a0, a client could send an incomplete CONNECT-UDP Capsule with an excessively large declared length, causing H2O to keep buffering received bytes without a per-Capsule limit while waiting for the remainder. Deployments that enabled proxy.connect-udp and accepted CONNECT-UDP requests could exhaust server memory and lose availability. This vulnerability is fixed with commit 4212ce114506a073505fd389db16ad2ba4e582a0.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
