Short explanation

Prior to version 2026.07, the RIOT microcontroller operating system contains a vulnerability in the DHCPv6 client _parse_reply() function due to missing sub-option length validation, leading to size_t underflow and unbounded out-of-bounds heap reads.

Why does it matter?

The vulnerability allows a malicious or compromised DHCPv6 server to trigger device crashes, memory exposure, or memory corruption over the network.

What should be done?

  • Upgrade to version 2026.07 or later
  • Follow the vendor security advisory
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

RIOT 2026.07 öncesi sürümlerde DHCPv6 istemcisi _parse_reply() alt seçenek uzunluk kontrolünü atlamaktadır.

Zafiyet boyuttan taşma ve yığın sınırları dışından okuma sorunlarına sebep olmaktadır.

Show the technical text from the sources

RIOT is an open-source microcontroller operating system designed for Internet of Things devices and other embedded systems. Prior to 2026.07, _parse_reply() in sys/net/application_layer/dhcpv6/client.c omits minimum-length validation before passing IA_PD and IA_NA option bodies to sub-option parsers. A malicious or compromised DHCPv6 server can send a REPLY with an option length smaller than the required structure while MODULE_DHCPV6_CLIENT_IA_PD is enabled, causing _parse_ia_pd_option to read past the option body, size_t underflow, and unbounded out-of-bounds heap reads that can crash the device and may expose or corrupt memory. This issue is fixed in version 2026.07.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
