Short explanation

The Nova interpreter in NovumOS runs in Ring 0 with unrestricted memory access. Loading a malicious script allows local users to execute code with kernel privileges.

Why does it matter?

The vulnerability allows local users to gain kernel-level privileges and achieve full control over the system.

What should be done?

  • Update NovumOS to version 0.25-beta.1 or later
  • Follow vendor security advisories
  • Prevent running untrusted .nv scripts via the shell
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

NovumOS içindeki Nova yorumlayıcısı Ring 0 seviyesinde kısıtlanmamış bellek erişimiyle çalışmaktadır.

Zararlı bir .nv betiğinin yüklenmesi, yerel kullanıcılara çekirdek yetkileri ile kod yürütme izni verir.

Show the technical text from the sources

NovumOS is a custom 32-bit operating system written in Zig and x86 Assembly. Prior to version 0.25-beta.1, the `Nova` interpreter runs in Ring 0 with unrestricted kernel-memory access. Loading a malicious `.nv` script through the shell permits a local user to execute code with kernel privileges without security checks. The advisory identifies VM initialization in `zig/nova/vm.zig` as the affected component; script execution is not isolated in a restricted Ring 3 privilege domain. This issue is fixed in version 0.25-beta.1.

Patch and Remediation Guide

Solution & Remediation Advisory

Patch status unknown

İncelenen resmî kaynaklarda yama durumu doğrulanamadı. Bu sonuç “yama yok” anlamına gelmez.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
