Short explanation
PhastPress plugin versions up to and including 3.10 contain an unauthenticated Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) flaw via the 'src' parameter; an attacker can spoof the HTTP 'Host' header to bypass the URL whitelist and cause the server to request arbitrary internal or external destinations.
SSRF can enable internal service discovery, data exfiltration, and serve as a stepping stone for further attacks.
What should be done?
- Follow vendor advisory for updates or patches
- Monitor outbound traffic for anomalous requests
- Enforce strict Host header validation via a WAF
- Implement network rules to restrict server-initiated external requests
- Block access to untrusted URLs
Chain of evidence and sources
Show the technical text from the sources
The PhastPress plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Server-Side Request Forgery in all versions up to, and including, 3.10 This is due to the scripts service endpoint constructing its URL whitelist dynamically from the attacker-controlled HTTP 'Host' header. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to spoof the header to match any target URL, bypassing the whitelist and forcing the server to make HTTP requests to arbitrary internal or external destinations and return the response content.
