Short explanation
The Import WP plugin before 2.14.23 allows unauthenticated access to sensitive user data via export file downloads. Exploitation requires pre-existing export and a weak download key. No public exploit or active exploitation is known. Patch status is UNKNOWN. Remediation requires upgrading to version 2.14.23 or later.
This vulnerability enables attackers to extract sensitive user data without authentication, posing a significant risk to WordPress sites using the Import WP plugin. Without proper mitigation, user data could be exposed in unsecured environments.
What should be done?
- Upgrade to Import WP version 2.14.23 or later
- Follow vendor advisories for official patch details
- Ensure no unconsumed exports exist in production environments
The sources give limited detail on some technical conditions. Review the chain of evidence below before deciding how to act.
Chain of evidence and sources
Show the technical text from the sources
The Import WP WordPress plugin before 2.14.23 does not perform any authorization check on one of its export-file download handlers, allowing unauthenticated attackers to download export files generated by administrators, which may contain user personal data such as email addresses, login names and roles. Exploitation requires an unconsumed export to already exist and a low-entropy, time-based download key to be obtained.
