Short explanation

In Kirki – Freeform Page Builder versions up to 6.2.0, an authenticated attacker with the kirki_content_access capability can inject malicious scripts into page builder text content.

Why does it matter?

The flaw can steal visitor sessions or tamper with page content when the compromised pages are viewed.

What should be done?

  • Follow the official Kirki security advisory
  • Apply the vendor patch as soon as it is released
  • Restrict kirki_content_access to trusted accounts only
  • Sanitize and escape page builder inputs properly
  • Monitor pages for injected scripts

Show the technical text from the sources

The Kirki – Freeform Page Builder, Website Builder & Customizer plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via Page Builder Text Content in all versions up to, and including, 6.2.0 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for authenticated attackers, with kirki_content_access capability granted by an administrator, to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page.
