Short explanation

Teunis van Beelen EDFbrowser before version 2.16 contains an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in check_edf_file(). This flaw can lead to application crashes through specially crafted annotation signal files.

Why does it matter?

The vulnerability allows attackers to compromise application stability using maliciously crafted files. Although it requires user interaction, patches are available to address the issue.

What should be done?

  • Update the software to version 2.16 or later
  • Follow the vendor advisory and patch guidelines
Chain of evidence and sources2 verified claims

EDFbrowser 2.16 öncesi sürümler, check_edf_file() fonksiyonunda sınır dışı yazma zafiyeti içermektedir.

Saldırganlar 256'dan fazla ek açıklama sinyali sağlayarak annot_ch dizisini aşırabilir ve edfhdrblock üyelerinin üzerine yazabilir.

Show the technical text from the sources

EDFbrowser before 2.16 contains an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in check_edf_file() that allows attackers to overflow the 256-element annot_ch array by supplying excessive annotation signals. Attackers can craft an EDF+ or BDF+ file with more than 256 annotation signals to overwrite edfhdrblock members, including the signal parameter pointer, crashing the application when opened.
