Short explanation
A vulnerability exists in the default seccomp profile used by Podman via containers-common, allowing bypass of AF_VSOCK and NETLINK_AUDIT deny rules due to 32-bit truncation.
This vulnerability enables a local attacker to bypass seccomp restrictions, execute sensitive system interactions, and weaken security boundaries.
What should be done?
- Follow official vendor advisories and updates
- Apply relevant container-libs and Podman patches
Chain of evidence and sources
Show the technical text from the sources
A flaw was found in the default seccomp profile used by Podman via containers-common. Deny rules for AF_VSOCK and NETLINK_AUDIT compared socket arguments with unmasked 64-bit equality. Because the kernel truncates those int arguments to 32 bits, setting upper bits can bypass the deny rules.
