Short explanation

The FV Flowplayer Video Player plugin versions up to and including 7.5.56.7212 contain a stored XSS flaw via the 'comment' parameter. Unauthenticated attackers can inject malicious scripts into comments; the script runs for site visitors when the 'Parse Vimeo and YouTube links' option is enabled and the comment is approved. The issue is medium severity (CVSS 5.4) with no reported active exploitation. Patch status is unknown.

Why does it matter?

Stored XSS can lead to credential theft, malicious redirects, and loss of site reputation for visitors.

What should be done?

  • Upgrade the plugin to the latest version (if available)
  • Disable the 'Parse Vimeo and YouTube links' option
  • Enforce stricter comment approval processes
  • Implement input sanitization and output escaping
  • Deploy a Web Application Firewall (WAF) with XSS protection
  • Monitor vendor advisory for patch information

Show the technical text from the sources

The FV Flowplayer Video Player plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Stored Cross-Site Scripting via the 'comment' parameter in all versions up to, and including, 7.5.56.7212 due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping. This makes it possible for unauthenticated attackers to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages that will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page. This requires the 'Parse Vimeo and YouTube links' option to be enabled, and the injected comment must be approved before the script executes for site visitors.
