Short explanation
Sogou Input Method for Windows contains a vulnerability in its SGTool.exe configuration retrieval mechanism over unencrypted HTTP, allowing attackers to replace legitimate server responses with malicious configurations and achieve arbitrary code execution.
An attacker capable of manipulating network traffic can instruct SGTool.exe to download malicious files to arbitrary locations and achieve arbitrary code execution.
What should be done?
- Follow vendor advisories
- Restrict unencrypted HTTP connections
- Ensure network traffic integrity
Chain of evidence and sources
Sogou Input Method for Windows, SGTool.exe bileşeninde güvensiz HTTP üzerinden yapılandırma verisi alır.
Saldırganlar ağ trafiğini manipüle ederek sunucu yanıtlarını kötü amaçlı yapılandırmalarla değiştirebilir.
İndirilen dosyaların çalıştırılması veya yüklenmesi rastgele kod yürütülmesine yol açabilir.
Show the technical text from the sources
Sogou Input Method for Windows contains a vulnerability in the configuration retrieval mechanism of its SGTool.exe component. The application retrieves configuration data over unencrypted HTTP connections, allowing an attacker capable of manipulating network traffic to replace legitimate server responses with malicious configurations. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability to instruct SGTool.exe to download attacker-controlled files to arbitrary locations, including paths used by legitimate application components. This can result in arbitrary code execution when the downloaded files are subsequently executed or loaded by the application.
