Short explanation

A reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists in Eclipse Mojarra when URL client window mode is enabled, due to the client window ID being appended without URL-encoding.

Why does it matter?

This vulnerability allows attackers to bypass Content Security Policy (CSP) mechanisms and execute malicious scripts within vulnerable applications.

What should be done?

  • Follow vendor security advisories
  • Review URL client window mode configurations
  • Apply updates when available
Chain of evidence and sources3 verified claims

Eclipse Mojarra sürümlerinde URL istemci penceresi modu etkinken istemci penceresi kimliği URL kodlaması olmadan eklenir.

h:button bileşeni URL'yi bir JavaScript dize değişmezine işleyerek yansıtmalı siteler arası betik çalıştırmaya izin verir.

com.sun.faces.enableCspNonce=true ayarı ile enjekte edilen betik, nonce betik elemanı içinde çalışarak İçerik Güvenliği Politikasını atlar.

In Eclipse Mojarra versions 2.2.0 through 4.0.28, 4.1.0 through 4.1.19, and 5.0.0-M1 through 5.0.0-M11, when URL client window mode is enabled (`jakarta.faces.CLIENT_WINDOW_MODE=url`), the client window id from the `jfwid` or `jakarta.faces.ClientWindow` request parameter is appended to generated URLs without URL-encoding. `h:button` renders such a URL into a JavaScript string literal, which allows reflected cross-site scripting. With `com.sun.faces.enableCspNonce=true`, the injected script runs on page load inside the nonce script element, bypassing the Content Security Policy.

Confirm the affected product and version against the source evidence above.
Restrict access to internet-facing services and apply network segmentation.
Until a patch is confirmed, follow the vendor advisory; do not read an unknown status as “no patch”.
Monitor server logs and network endpoints for signs of anomalous execution.
